engaged

this may or may not be fresh news to you (mostly depending on if i see you often)...but karl and i got engaged (ahem, *guiltily* back before the holidays)...whee. we went on a little vacation up to vancouver, bc and had a good time running around in the rain. one of karl's co-workers hooked us up with a great hotel deal (thanks rebecca!), we ate awesome food and went to some excellent northwest coastal museums. loved it!

karl was antsy about the ring, which i had picked out about 6 months earlier (i knew it would take him a while to pay it off...tee-hee...i think i deserve it) and he asked me to marry him on the first night! the whole getting married thing we talked about after my trip to peru, which was like 3 years ago, so it's probably not a huge surprise to anyone--just a matter of when.
my aunt b sent me this cute kitty clock (with a cat appropriately swinging from the window shade) as an engagement present. thank you! it even matches my christmas cactus.

here are my ring pictures:
my ring is a vintage (early 1920s) neo- egyptian (see stylized papyrus leaves on the sides) art deco piece. the center stone is a 'fancy' ooh-la-la orange diamond with two tiny white diamonds all set into platinum.
and i thought i wanted something different but simple--ha!
i knew i wanted to find a colored stone and no "diamond on a stick" rings that look just like every other ring. thank you maloy's--if you live in town you should visit their little shop downtown--exquisite estate jewelry. when i put this one on i just knew it was mine.

hope everyone had a good new year's--CHEERS!

Congratulations! Your ring is beautiful. It definitely has more character than a diamond on a stick. Mine ended up being a copy of an estate piece, since the original was too small. It may be expensive to let us choose our own rings, but at least we get one we love. :)

thank you! it's true about picking your own. i would have never known that this was the ring for me. i even saw it in the case and wasn't crazy about it until it was on my finger.

karl tried to find one on his own for a while, but eventually he gave up and i'm glad he did.

have you tied the knot yet? i think i saw a photo of your lovely ring quite a while ago.

We're getting married on August 16 of this year. I think you commented on one of the ring pictures long ago. Steve and I have been engaged since early November 2006, but we decided to put off the wedding for a while to get more done on our house.

Have you and Karl set a date?

i think we are going to try to have the wedding in the middle of next september (yikes). i was actually visiting a grad school in vancouver because i was thinking about enrolling next fall. then we got officially engaged and i decided that one or the other would have to wait (i'm not that kind of a maniac). so that puts me here: wedding end of next summer (a little soon for comfort, versus postponed indefinitely) and grad school the year after that.

That sounds like a good plan. I was glad that I did grad school right after undergrad, so I was done by the time I got engaged. I can't imagine trying to do that while planning a wedding, especially in another state or country.

9 months certainly isn't much time, but I think it's do-able. You just don't have as much time to drag your feet as I've had.

Good luck with everything!

I'm late with my congratulations but wanted to wish you all the best. What a beautiful ring! (And you were wise to try it on first -- you just never know, do you?)

Love is so splendid!

Take care. ~ A
